How to Repair a Mechanical Heart

How to Repair a Mechanical Heart - J.C. Lillis Never understood fandom of any sort, still don't. Baffles me. But this book was a gem. Recommended.
Shinobi, Book One: Concealed in Shadows - Sessha Batto Different, which I enjoyed.

Pretty Little Rentboys

Pretty Little Rentboys - Mike McAvoy This will hurt, and it should. Solid story, but not for everyone.

The Sky Is Dead

The Sky Is Dead - Sue Brown There is more truth here than anyone who has not worked with homeless youth will ever understand. For that alone it was 5 stars, but it is a great story as well.

Out

Out - Laura Preble Very difficult read and not one I would recommend for younger YA readers.

Controversy aside, the book was well written with a few problem areas which I felt could have been delved into a bit deeper, particularly the relationships. At times they felt too shallow and didn't reflect the complexity they could have to round out the story.

I also believe the book would have been better received without the reversal but do NOT find that the author meant either harm or antagonism to the LGBT community.

Blind: A Memoir

Blind: A Memoir - Belo Miguel Cipriani A story of strength, survival, and beauty.
Highly recommended.
Fearless - Edward Jakab Definitely for the younger demographic of the LGBTQAI YA reader crowd. Well written (a few mistakes), and filled with teenage angst/worries about looks, acceptance, style, music, and love.

Recommended for the teen lgbtq reader.

Sushi Chef (A Novel)

The Sushi Chef - David DeBacco 4.5 Delectable - and recommended.

One Boy's Shadow

One Boy's Shadow - Ross A. McCoubrey 5+ Stars Much more than coming of age. This was one of the most touching & beautiful love stories I've read in many years.

Highly recommended.

Incursion

Incursion - Aleksandr Voinov Solid writing, well crafted sci-fi. Really enjoyed it.

Aaron

Aaron - J.P. Barnaby Tragic, haunting, and utterly beautiful.
A must read.

Kamikaze Boys

Kamikaze Boys - Jay Bell Needed a nice sweet story and this fit the bill perfectly.

Recommended

The Book of Paul

The Book of Paul - Richard Long Unexpectedly great. Very few horror books surprise me these days. This was the rare exception. Read it some months back and it's already on my must re-read list.

The Lonely War

The Lonely War - Alan Chin 4.5

Excellent. Took this with me on a recent trip and loved it. The language, the teachings, and the scenery were all quite familiar and made me feel right at home. I think what I enjoyed the most was the inherent sensuality in the writing style.

Highly Recommended

Gentlemen's Game

Gentlemen's Game - Lichen Craig 4.5 recommended

The writing style will put some off within the first few pages. There are also a few difficult spots that I had to re-read and try to figure out what the author was trying to say, but beyond those, the depth of this story and the sheer beauty (and roughness) of its images & characters will pull you in, if you let them.

Second Chances

Second Chances - Jeff Erno Tragic, scary, and heart-warming all at the same time. Recommended.
